In this tutorial, we are creating a Venn diagram in Google Docs.
So, there are many ways to present data via graphical means: for example, with the help of the images, charts, drawings, the diagrams like a Venn diagram, and so on. Fortunately, Google Docs offers tools to create the Venn diagram, not directly, but by the kind of drawing it. And here, you can see one of the ways a Venn diagram might look. So, let's start!
Watch the video from https://thegoodocs.com/ and find out how to make a Venn diagram on Google Docs:
Creating Shapes
At first, we open the drawing canvas by clicking “Insert” on the toolbar on top of the page, then we go down to the “Drawing” item and select “+ New” on the right. This opens up a drawing canvas over a document, and here we create the diagram itself
Now we simply draw circles and enter a text in them. For doing that, you need the “Shape” icon on the toolbar, then select “Shapes” in the drop-down and click “Oval” here. Now press-hold and draw a circle, and release
Then for the second circle, we won’t draw another one since we can just copy the one we have to keep the size of the circle. So, make sure the figure is selected, right mouse click on it, and select “Copy” in the menu. Now do a right mouse click anywhere on the empty space and press “Paste” here. There you have it
Now press-hold on the second circle and drag it to the right. The red guide line will tell you if you have placed the second circle on the level with the first one
And this is a basic double circle Venn diagram. If you need a triple one, basically, copy the circle once again, paste it one more time and place it the way to cover the bottom half of both circles (you will see the example on the third screenshot below)
Decorating / Colors
Then we need to change the colors of the figures to make them distinct.
For that, select one figure and go to the “Fill color” item on the toolbar
So, commonly, the colors of the parts in the diagram are made relatively transparent. Therefore, we will do that as well.
Select the color you need (we will choose the green color as an example to show you how it works), open the drop-down again, and then press on the “+” icon under the “Custom” line
Here we need the second slider — “TRANSPARENCY”. So, move it to around the middle and press “OK”
Here is our diagram
Now repeat that for the other shapes: select the colors and make them transparent enough. We will show you our random customization. And you customize the figures as you like and/or need according to your tasks and ideas. It is also a perfect idea to search the Internet to find some samples of Venn diagrams. It's really helpful to look at professional-looking diagrams
Text & Completion of Customization
And now, we need to enter the text into the shapes.
For that, we create a text box by selecting the “Text box” item on the toolbar. And then we draw a frame and type in what we need
Then you may want to format the text, and here, there are the common tools for that on the toolbar. For instance, you can customize the font, the text size, and implement lots of other formattings. Then you can move the box elsewhere to place it just like you want. So, select the text you start customizing and add customization to it. We will make some random customization for the text to show you how it looks
And for the other shapes (to create text boxes for them), you can, actually, copy this text box as well and paste it in another circle to keep the formatting of that text. Type the text that you have in the second circle and copy it once again for the third circle, moving it and entering something you need in there
Now let’s group all these items in their crossing just the way the diagram is supposed to work. We’ll duplicate the text box once again and place it at the intersection of all the shapes. For example, we enter “WE” here to unite them all. And you customize the figures as you need
When you finish the customization here, press “Save and Close” in the top right corner
And here we have our Venn diagram in our document
So, this is how you create a Venn diagram in Google Docs, but with your data in it and the customization you need, of course.
We hope this tutorial will help you learn how to make a Venn diagram on Google Docs. Good luck!
